Frequently Asked Questions
I have recently developed heel pain which occurs primarily on standing after a period of rest. The pain lessens after walking; can you tell me what is going on?
Heel pain is one of the most frequently treated ailments in our office. Although heel pain can be caused by many different disorders, such as arthritis, collagen diseases, overuse, trauma, etc., the overwhelming majority of heel pain is caused by plantar fasciitis.
This thick band of tissue at the bottom of the foot becomes inflamed causing the classic symptoms of pain at the bottom and/or side of the heel. This is most painful upon arising in the morning or when standing after sitting for a some period. The pain can exist with or without a “heel spur” on x-ray.
I have a sharp burning pain between my toes and is made worse when I wear higher heel shoes?
What you have sounds like a neuroma or pinched nerve. Neuroma is a painful condition that is commonly seen in our office. The most common complaints associated with a neuroma are pain in front of the foot, aching, burning, numbness, tingling or the feeling of walking on a stone or rolled up sock. Often the pain can radiate into the toes or into the bottom of the foot. A neuroma is a benign thickening of the nerve that runs between the metatarsals and branches to the toes. Although the pain is most often seen between the 3rd and 4th toes, a neuroma can occur between any of the toes.
